It’s different than a standard medical alert system in a couple of important ways.

The biggest difference is that it’s passive rather than active. With a regular medical alert system the senior person not only has to remember to wear their pendant, but they have to press it in case of a fall, or if they need help. BeClose works in a completely different way. The BeClose monitoring system doesn’t require anyone to remember anything. Instead, the motion and activity sensors simply record actions around the house.

This gives you a surprisingly good picture of what’s going on for your elderly parent. For example, if I were to install this for my parents, I would put a sensor on the basement stairs to track how many times my father goes up and down to his office. If the number of trips dropped off I would know (or at least be able to guess) that his knee or hip was bothering him more than usual. Since he is probably reluctant to call me with this information, it’s good for me to get it this way. By acting on it I can not only help him to be more comfortable, but I can reduce the chance that he will have a damaging fall due to the pain and discomfort he’s feeling.
